July 11, 1986 – September 8, 2011

On September 8, 2011, Amanda Jo Kalman, who had just turned 25, was a victim of domestic violence. She had previously reported two domestic violence incidents prior to being killed in her home in front of her two children. Her two daughters, ages 2 and 4, will never know what a wonderful mother she was, and she lived every moment for them. An entire family was destroyed by one act of violence. Amanda’s daughters, her sisters, her mother, grandmother, aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends will never enjoy her smile and joyful personality again.

This year, the National Council of Jewish Women, Charleston Section, will be honoring Amanda in their ongoing efforts to educate and provide support services for victims of domestic violence. The Amanda Jo Kalman Memorial 5K Run/Walk/Family Fun Day will be held at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park on September 23, 2012 beginning at 1:00 pm.
